One of the keys to designing outside structures that are not only practical but also look great is to ensure the new project is sympathetic to the existing structures.
When a client from Kinglake asked Ron Matz & Brian Ebejer from Outside Concepts Northern Branch in Victoria to build them a double carport, one of the briefs was to attach the carport to the house and ensure it married in with the house perfectly. So, because the house roof was a gable hip, the carport was designed in the same roof style.
Special care was also taken to ensure the new carport would withstand the high rainfall in the Kinglake area, with laminated veneer lumber chosen for the side beams. The beams were then treated to combat any potential mould or rot issues. The remainder of the timber used in the carport was H3 treated pine.
With the timber paint and the Colorbond metal roof colours carefully chosen to match the house and a concrete slab installed, the final result is a carport that not only meets the needs of the clients, it also complements the house flawlessly.
The owners were very involved in the design process and knew exactly what they wanted, and are very happy with the final result. Now, on rainy days, they can park their cars and enter the house without getting wet – and that’s very hip indeed!
