How can you keep the heat out of an outside entertainment area?

That was the problem facing a homeowner in a Bayside Melbourne suburb. While the owners had the ideal location for an outdoor entertainment area they were faced with a hot and sunny aspect that would limit the area’s use during summer.

The homeowners called on David Buntin, branch owner of Outside Concepts Bayside,to help them find a solution. After sitting down with the owner and discussing their needs, including their desire to use recycled timber in the project, David built a large patio for the project. The frame was built using beautiful, locally sourced recycled timber, bolted together by custom-made brackets. He then erected a roof over part of the structure using a product called Solarspan, an insulated roofing product that is ideal for use in structures such as patios, where heat reduction is an issue. Not only does the roof keep the patio cooler, it also significantly reduces heat inside the homeowner’s adjacent living area.

To complete the project, a beautiful timber decking was built that wraps around the side of the home.

With lighting and a fan fitted to the ceiling of the roof, the homeowners now have a large and inviting area to relax and entertain. There are also plans to fit an automatic retractable blind to the exposed side of the structure, to further reduce the heat.
