We get it, you’re a flexible sort of person. You stretch before and after exercising. When you’re asked where you would like to eat out, you invariably reply with an “I’m easy”. And if someone changes plans on you at the last minute, you take it in your stride. So, when it comes to choosing between a roof and no roof for your Sydney North patio, you want flexibility as well, and the good news is you can!

The question of whether to roof or not roof your Sydney North patio – or verandah or pergola for that matter – is one with seemingly no single correct answer. If you put a roof on, you’ll miss out on the beautiful sensation of sitting in the sun on a cool day. If you don’t put a roof on, you’ll have to head indoors when it rains or it’s too hot to be in the sun. You can’t win. Or can you?

There are ways to have the best of both worlds with your Sydney North patio, so let’s take a look at the options.

Sydney North patio roofing options

  1. The first and most unassuming option is simply simple. Roof part of your patio and leave the rest without a roof. You’ll then be able to pick and choose where to sit depending on the conditions. The downside of this option, unless your Sydney North patio, verandah or pergola is large, is that the covered section may be a little small and this can be shrunk further if rain is being blown in by wind.
  2. Another excellent option is to add a louvered roof to your patio. These are terrific products that feature louvres in the roof that can be adjusted with a flick of a switch. Let light in, keep light out, let sun in, keep sun out, open on a nice day, closed for rain. The choice is yours.
  3. Extending the concept of the louvered roof even further, you might consider a retractable roof for your Sydney North patio. As well generally featuring louvres and the adjustments these provide, you can also completely retract the roof to leave clear, open space about your patio when you want it. Then, when you don’t, you can close the roof. Not perhaps a solution for someone looking for budget patio, but what a great idea!
  4. Lastly, there’s the option of an extendable awning. As well as providing full open and close flexibility, perhaps the biggest benefit of the awning is that when it’s retracted against the house you’d hardly know it was there. Plus, you can choose from  a range of crank or motorised control options. It’s also worth pointing out that today’s retractable awnings can be quite large and will provide excellent coverage for your patio.
