In past blogs we’ve looked at the conundrum of what to do if you want a pergola or patio that provides cover from the sun and rain, while at the same time having an open roof to enjoy sunshine in cooler weather. For most people, the best solution is to have a pergola or patio that is partly covered. However, if you have the space, there is another solution that you perhaps should consider.
The solution? Build two pergolas!
That’s exactly what these Outside Concepts clients did. Instead of building one large pergola they built two medium sized outdoor living areas. The design and building was completed by Outside Concepts Western branch and allowed the client to enjoy the best of both worlds.
One pergola featured an inbuilt timber seat, underneath an open roof, thereby providing an outdoor area for the family to relax and enjoy the sunshine. The other pergola was covered with a Colorbond and polycarbonate roof, providing protection from the sun and rain. Both pergolas included stunning timber decks, providing plenty of space to relax and entertain.
The two pergolas are joined by a short section of curved decking that marries the two outdoor living areas together and provides easy access to between pergolas.
The true worth of this solution can be seen at any time of the year. No matter what the temperature, rain and other weather conditions, the clients always have an outdoor living area they can use. And, depending on the time of the year and the weather, they can choose the pergola that suits their needs at any specific time.
Of course, the solution does require extra backyard space that many people may not have. But it does demonstrate the importance of considering your needs and perhaps thinking outside the box to accommodate these needs, when designing and building outside structures.
