Any well-built timber deck provides a wealth of entertainment and relaxation opportunities for its owners, but this deck in Blackwood South Australia takes these opportunities to new heights!
The timber deck has been built to wrap around a large section of the home and its height means that it almost meets the canopy of surrounding trees. Steel posts were used to give the deck maximum stability and durability, with minimum maintenance. Likewise, treated pine was chosen for the frame.
When it came to the choice of timber for the decking, merbau was considered because of its beauty and durability but was discounted due to the leaching of tannins that is common with this timber. Instead, Pacific jarrah was chosen as an excellent alternative. It has similar characteristics to merbau – it’s durable, stable and is brown and red in colour – but leaches far less.
The design and installation of the deck was completed by Derek McNamee, Outside Concepts’ new specialist in our Southern Branch, South Australia and expertly meets the needs of the Blackwood homeowners.
