A large deck off the back of a home provides a wonderful area for entertainment and relaxation, but it offers little protection from harsh sun and rain! So when a customer in the Mount Barker area in South Australia contacted Outside Concepts’ Eastern Branch we helped design and build the perfect solution.
Rather than a simple verandah, however, some special requirements were called for to provide a roof over the existing deck.
First, the customer wanted only two posts to ensure virtually uninterrupted views. With a long span of 9 metres this required slightly sturdier posts, which were then boxed out (not yet painted in the photo) to give a more substantial look. To enhance the views even more, the roof was also raised up from the house. A box gutter was installed between the house and the verandah to cope with the extra water that results during rain. In addition, to provide an aesthetically pleasing look and a flowing design from inside to outside, the ceiling of the verandah was lined with 4.5 mm Hardiflex.
The resultant verandah perfectly matches the home owner’s needs, for now and many years into the future.
