What do you do if you want to build a new verandah for your Sydney home but don’t want to cut out natural light? In the past, the only real option was standard polycarbonate roofing, but not anymore. These days there are so many more options to consider. Which option is your clear winner?

The lightweight solution for your Sydney verandah

The images on this page show just a couple of examples of roofs that let natural light shine through. Both Sydney verandahs were built by our Lane Cove branch.

One shows a custom designed verandah built between the homeowner’s home and their carport. The owner wanted to maximise the natural light flowing under the verandah, particularly given the main living space is at the front of the home.

With Lane Cove branch manager Oliver to guide them, they went with a product called Sunglaze.  Sunglaze is an architecturally designed polycarbonate glazing system that gives verandahs, patios, pergolas and carports a roof with a traditional glass look.

The roofing panels provide 99.99% UV protection, insulates against solar heat and sun glare, comes in a range of colours and like all polycarbonate products is super tough and durable.

The other image shows a custom designed verandah or pergola featuring a multiwall polycarbonate roof. It has similar features to the Sunglaze product with one added bonus. It has a honeycomb like structure that provides increased insulation properties.

With a multiwall polycarbonate roof installed on your Sydney verandah, your outdoor living area will be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Plus, you’ll have the added bonus of the natural light.

Polycarbonate – all clear winners

While the images provide two examples of newer polycarbonate roofing solutions, there are others available. Plus, there’s certainly nothing wrong with the traditional polycarbonate roofing sheets.

The more standard polycarbonate sheets come in a range of ridge profiles, including the standard corrugated profile. They’re also available in a wide variety of colours and shades to suit your home and your architectural style.

To call them standard is a bit of an injustice!

Your Sydney verandah builder is also clear

If you’re after a roofing material that lets natural light into your verandah, the solution is clear. So too is who to build your verandah.

If you live in the Sydney suburb of Lane Cove or anywhere in the northern, inner west or north west of Sydney, Oliver and his Outside Concepts Lane Cove branch are the clear winners.

Whether you’re after a verandah with a clear roof or something entirely different, Oliver can help. Like all our branches, he designs and build customised structures. That’s structures that are custom made exactly for your requirements, which in our books is the only way it should be.
