Questions
Do I need council approval for a pergola, carport, patio, or deck?
In most cases, yes — requirements vary by council and structure type. We assess what’s needed and handle all approvals as part of your project.
What’s the difference between a DA and a CDC?
A Development Application is assessed by council; a Complying Development Certificate is a faster approval for projects that meet set standards. We advise which path suits your build.
What is a Local Environment Plan (LEP) and why does it matter?
An LEP sets what can be built, and where, within a local government area, with Development Control Plans specifying the acceptable construction types for each zone. Two properties in the same street can face different requirements if they sit in different zones. Your local franchisee knows the LEP and DCP rules that apply to your block.
Are Outside Concepts builders fully licensed and insured?
Yes. Every branch is fully licensed and insured, with $20M public liability cover and a 10-year workmanship warranty. We hold current builder’s licences in every state we operate: VIC (CDB-L 48045), NSW (211693C), SA (BLD 217043) and QLD (BSA 1156440).
Do you manage the entire project, or do I coordinate other trades?
We manage everything — design, approvals, construction and handover. You deal with one local team from start to finish.
Do you sell carport or pergola kits, or materials only?
No. We design and build complete, custom structures — we don’t supply kits or materials only.
How should I compare quotes from different builders?
Compare inclusions, materials, warranties and whether approvals and construction are handled in-house. The cheapest quote rarely includes everything. Download our quote comparison checklist to see exactly what to look for.
What’s covered by the 10-year workmanship warranty?
Our workmanship warranty covers the quality of the build itself, giving you long-term peace of mind on every project.
How long does a typical project take from quote to completion?
A straightforward project on a standard suburban block can move from consultation to construction in four to eight weeks. Projects that need a Development Application take longer — council timeframes are outside our control, but we manage the process and keep you updated.
What financing options are available?
