Creating the perfect outside room for your home requires a healthy mix of design and craftsmanship, as well as some careful planning and thought during the early stages.
When a family from Bannockburn contacted Kose from our Western Branch in Victoria, they wanted an outside area that would be the hub for all their outdoor entertainment and relaxation. Their brief was for a great-looking structure that was practical, could be used all year round and would let in plenty of natural light.
To meet the family’s aims, Jaan built a timber verandah with a beautiful gable roof, to match the house and the other outside structures. In addition, to make the most of the natural light, he installed several sections of skylight panels in the roof and used double-sided Colorbond (grey on the top to match the house and cream underneath to help reflect light). The use of double-sided Colorbond also gives the structure a more finished look.
Additional features included a structure with more posts, to allow café blinds to be installed at a later date, chunkier 115mm X 115mm posts for a more robust look and the installation of clear Perspex infills at both ends to block the wind and rain and allow light in.
The homeowners are more than happy with the result and now use the verandah for all their alfresco dining and entertainment with family and friends.
