The owners of this gracious freestone house with return verandah (circa 1933) required a custom Adelaide carport to compliment the house. In keeping with the limited budget, contemporary construction methods and materials were chosen and extra care was put into the detailing and finishing to give the project visual compatibility with the older style home. The B&D panel lift door was chosen in preference to the modern Roll-a-Door and a custom gable infill was designed and carefully constructed to reflect the original detailing on the house.
Paint colours were carefully selected – the body of the carport was painted with Colorbond Paperbark to compliment the stone facings while remaining neutral and not detracting from the visual appeal of the house. The new structure was linked into the front facade by using the same deep red on all gable fascia boards. The result is smart, sleek and cleverly discreet.
