Compare the pair of Sydney carport images on this page. They’re both designed to essentially do the same thing – protect the homeowners’ cars and the homeowners themselves. They both feature tiled roofs. And they were both built by the same team – Outside Concepts Lane Cove branch. However, the style of the two carports are very different and worth looking at in detail.
The modern carport for your Sydney home
In the smaller image is what we would call a modern carport. We featured this project in a post earlier this year, highlighting that the brief for Outside Concepts Lane Cove was to deliver a turnkey design solution that included both a new carport and landscaping. The work included building a large double carport, installing the driveway and council crossover, and landscaping the entire front garden.
Importantly, the design of the Sydney carport perfectly matches the existing house. Like the home, it features rendering and a tiled roof, and the roof shape matches the roof shape of the home. The colours of all materials were also chosen to match the home.
The result is a carport that most people would probably look at think was built at the same time as the home.
A classical carport for your Sydney home
In the main image is a Federation-style carport, again built by the team at Outside Concepts Lane Cove.
The key again to getting this carport spot-on was to match every detail of the home it adjoins. In the case of this Sydney carport, this includes a tiled roof, decorative scrolls, tongue and groove timber ceiling, decorative timber verandah brackets, decorative timber facade and roof vent.
An additional challenge for this project was that the Federation home was located within a conservation area. This required extra planning controls and considerations to protect the historic and architectural elements of this beautiful home.
A perfect match
Picture the carports swapped over. The Federation-style carport built alongside the modern home and the modern-style carport built alongside the Federation home. It just wouldn’t work. Practically, the carports would still serve the same purpose, but the styles would be all wrong and a jarring conflict would occur. Certainly not the result most people are looking for.
Matching the style and colours of a new carport for your Sydney home is one way of getting the design right. It’s not as easy as it seems, but is worth the effort to create the wow factor that most people are looking for. Another way of creating a stylish carport is to go for a complementary style. This is a little more difficult to pull off but can work equally well.
