Dutch gable carport: a long time favourite

6 Nov 2012
The Dutch gable has always been a popular design and rightly so.

Dutch gable carport by Outside Concepts Geelong, Victoria

It offers a little bit more to the discerning buyer than a standard upright faced gable. The Dutch gable suits older homes and those with distinctive styling as seen here in this double storey brick home in the Victorian suburb of Leopold.

Built by Bob Coombes of Outside Concepts Geelong, this timber carport, with its Colorbond roof, teams well with the adjacent hip and tiled roof.

This harmony of design is achieved by two important considerations; replicating the pitch of the original garage roof in the new gable roof and carefully selecting compatible colour schemes to match fascias, gutters and flashings.

Treated pine timber was selected for the job, being an economical choice while providing long term protection against borer and termite attack and can be used direct into the ground. With all timber it is important to protect from splitting and harsh weathering by painting or oiling. This Leopold carport has been painted with an outdoor acrylic paint to match existing details on the main house.
