This carport project required more than a standard design. Our North Eastern Melbourne franchisee, Ron Matz, needed to apply to the local council for a front setback dispensation.
Council Application initially rejected
Council initially refused the application and offered approval for a single carport instead.
But Ron came up with an alternative approach
Ron continued working with council to find a solution that would meet its planning requirements while still providing the homeowner with the double carport they needed.
Approval was eventually granted on the condition that the carport was shortened by 500mm and the maximum gutter height was limited to 2.6 metres.
Carport custom engineered to suit
The reduced height created another challenge. A conventional timber perimeter beam would have been too large and restricted the clearance beneath the carport. Ron therefore designed the structure with a slimmer steel perimeter beam, providing the necessary strength while maintaining practical clearance.
A great result for our Client
The result is a functional, well-designed double carport tailored to the property and approved within council requirements.
